Dr. Susan K. Rick Scholarship – East Africa Regional Opportunity
The Dr. Susan K. Rick Scholarship fund supports female students from Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Ethiopia who are committed to pursuing a career in the medical or healthcare field. The fund provides financial assistance to help close the funding gap and support academic achievement among women in underserved communities.
Eligibility
To be eligible, the applicant must:
- Be a female student currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a recognized high school or university in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, or Ethiopia.
- Intend to pursue or continue a diploma, associate, or bachelor’s degree in medicine, nursing, public health, pharmacy, or other health-related fields.
- Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited college or university in your home country or abroad.
- Demonstrate financial need (as verified through school documentation, financial aid letters, or family income statements).
Selection Criteria
Recipients will be selected by the MyScholarMap Scholarship Review Committee based on:
- Academic preparation and commitment to healthcare studies
- Financial need and documentation
- Quality of submitted essays and recommendations
- Involvement in community service, extracurriculars, or healthcare initiatives
- Any special circumstances shared by the applicant
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Award
- Scholarship Amount: $2,000 USD, renewable for up to 4 academic years
- Disbursement: Funds will be sent directly to the recipient’s institution
Deadline
May 15, 2025
Renewal
Recipients may reapply each year (for up to four years) if they:
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Continue to pursue a degree in the healthcare/medical field
- Submit updated academic and financial documentation annually

After submission, pay the non-refundable application fee to enable our team to review, verify, and forward your documents securely to the selection committee.
Required Documents & Questions
- Recent academic transcript (including name, school, GPA)
- Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references
- Proof of admission or enrollment
- Financial documentation (e.g., financial aid letter, tuition invoice, or family income statement)
- Personal essay (500 words max): Describe your strengths and how they support your future in healthcare.
- Career essay (200 words max): Why did you choose this field, and what are your long-term goals?
- Optional: A statement on any unusual financial or personal circumstances
Notification
Applicants will be notified by email at support@myscholarmap.com by June 2025. Successful applicants will receive instructions for fund disbursement.
